Nominations for this year's Distinguished Teacher Awards and Helen Phelps Awards are due on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the DPS Administration Building, 900 Grant Street.  The Denver Teachers' Awards Nomination Packet will be available September 28, 2011.

Watch this web site for detailed information about the nomination process for 2011-2012.   We accept one nomination from each school for the Distinguished Teacher Award.   We give a Helen Phelps Award each year to an outstanding individual volunteer and a Helen Phelps Award to a business that has demonstrated outstanding support for a DPS school.

DTA was started in 1957 by visionary Denver businessman, Charles W. Lerch.  He was dedicated to strengthening our foundation of freedom and believed that the most efficient way to do this was by encouraging quality education in the Denver Public Schools.  The tradition has been continued by DTA board members who raise funds each year to support the organization and its work.  See "What You Can DO" to assist with this effort.

Distinguished Teacher Award recipients receive recognition. The schools of teacher recipients also receive recognition.

The Helen Phelps Awards honor both an individual and a company who are making outstanding volunteer contributions to Denver Public Schools. Submit a one-page nomination letter outlining the deserving person or group so these education supporters receive the recognition they deserve.

"The quality of our schools is the foundation of our city’s future…Our efforts must focus on creating a City that is teacher-friendly, child-friendly and family-friendly"
Former Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper
